How I make my selections...

Rarely will I publish a review of a wine that I did not enjoy; my taste is purely individual, as is your own. If I write about a particular wine, I do so because I also want you to try it.

Easter wine pairings

This weekend presents a great opportunity to enjoy a really good bottle of wine with your holiday meal and festivities. In the list below, I have paired several good labels with an appropriate dish.  Remember to always consider both the dish and the style of preparation: rich gravy and spice calls for a more robust wine and conversely, mild tastes compliment lighter bodied wines.

Since Easter only comes about once a year, why not splurge for a really top-notch bottle or two.  Simply click on the wine names below to check stock levels for that wine at the LCBO in your area.

Cheers!
Tyler

with Turkey – consider the side dishes; the richer the dish the bigger the wine.
            2008 Sanford, Pinot Noir  $45
2007 Craggy Range, Single Vineyard Chardonnay  $35

Beef or Ribs – red meat and rich gravy or sauces pair perfectly with a full-bodied red:
            2007 Penfolds Bin 28, Kalimna Shiraz  $35
2006 Zenato Amarone della Valpolicella  $49

Ham – a traditional dish in Beaujolais, so why not drink the local wine – Gamay.
The fruit flavours in the wine will accent the a sweet glaze on the meat:
            2006 Louis Jadot, Moulin-a-vent  $28

Lamb – an old red Bordeaux (if you have some laying around in the cellar) or try a good Spanish Rioja like 2005 Marques de Murrieta Reserva Ygay  $25

and of course, Chocolate – fortified with milk chocolate or a 'jammy red' with dark:
with milk:  Graham’s 20 year old Tawny Port  $36
with dark:  2008 Beringer Knight’s Valley Cabernet Sauvignon  $35

Don’t forget the bubbles either…. 2010 Enrico Serafino Moscato d’Asti  $16

Yes, they're expensive but Wow are they good!

Happy Easter
